Today is Mothers Day and I’ve just come back from taking my mother out as she wanted to do some shopping in Milton Keynes. I had hoped to take her out for lunch but my mother hates crowds and in the end we both just had a sandwich in Marks and Spencer. It’s been ages since I was last in Milton Keynes shopping and to be honest I feel so out of place with the modern high street. Fashion today is just awful and how the shops get away with selling some of this stuff is beond me. My friend Kim and I were having a laugh the other day about the dreadful onesy – Siren suit in the 40s or Jump suit in the 70s. I saw some hanging up on a market stall the other day and quite frankly I’ve never seen anything quite so horrid along with the nasty ug boots. Yuc! When I buy modern clothes which is hardly ever I always look for good style, quality and fabrics that don’t crese. Although there are plenty of smart tea time and evening dressed available when it comes to every day wearable fashion the high street fails to please. Everything seems to droop and looks washed out. It’s about time someone brought some style back to the high street! Needless to say I didn’t buy a thing and my mother just came home with a wash and wear nightdress which looked a little on the winsette side to me although she kept on insisting it wasn’t!
Tonight I have rehursals with the South Beds Concert Band which will be our last one before the concert on the 13th March. So do come if you can. The concert is part of the Oxjam music festival taking place here in my home town of Leighton Buzzard – details can be found on their web-site so do check them out and click on the link www.oxjamleightonbuzzard.org.uk
Thanks for following and Toodle Pip for now!

Sorry I’m a bit behind with my blog I should have posted last night but couldn’t get in. At first I thought I had been targated by the hackers again but as it turned out it was just me being thick as I was typing in the wrong pass word. It was late and sometimes I can’t always see the wood for the trees but all is well now as I breath a sigh of releaf and think on-wards and up-wards and get on with my world.
Once again it’s been a busy week with shows every day and tomorrow I’m doing a “Hooray for Hollywood” show in High Wycombe. Most of this week I have been singing the 1950s and 60s along with the 20s and 30s. Today I was booked to sing at a fabulous 1920s/30s tea party where all the staff were dressed up as Miss Nippys. As my back drop they had the Fred and Ginger film “Top Hat” playing as I sung in front of the screen. I confess I kept taking crafty looks over my shoulder as I’m a big Fred and Ginger fan and for those of you who know your films you will know this is the film where Ginger dances “Cheek to Cheek” in that dress! The one with all the feathers! The one Fred hated as they kept going up his nose! Wow what a wonderful rutine that was. When I dance I always imagine myself to be Ginger Rodgers dancing with Fred Astaire. I’m such a romantic!
Dispite being on the road a fair bit this week I met up with my web designer Rachel and we spent some time going through my Google Analytics. So a big Hello to all my international followers and it’s great to know you are able to translate my blogs into your own languges. Please forgive my bad spelling as I’m sure some of the translations must be very entertaining to read. I now have a following in Russia and China, lots of you in France and the US, Netherlands and much of Europe so do keep following my world as it’s lovely to share it with you all. Don’t forget you can always place a comment on my blog and facebook pages as I would love to hear from you. You can also click onto my you tube channel from my web-site and view some of my videos from there so do take a look www.fionaharrison.biz
A little closer to home I hope you will be able to catch my next public performance. I will be singing in my home town of Leighton Buzzard at All Saints Church on Wednesday the 13th March at 8pm with The South Beds Concert Band. They are about 20/30 strong and it will be wonderful to be singing with them. Bill Pollard has arranged my “War time Sing along medley” for concert band which I think will work with my voice better being a soprano. I did have band parts for Big Band but this will be a better ballance as we have Piccolos, Flutes, Oboes everything but the strings really. I’m also singing 2 Vera Lynn numbers “The White Cliffs of Dover” and “We’ll Meet Again” plus some oprea so do come if you can. Tickets on the door at £6 and £8.
We’ll I think I might give myself a night off tonight and watch a film or something. Thank-you for following. See you on the 13th Toodle Pip and Bye for Now!

This weekend I’ve been working non stop to get all my paper work up to scratch as I have a run of 7 shows to do this week so busy busy. I’m pleased to say I managed to get most of my paper work done but no sooner do you get one heep sorted then there seems to be another. Not that I’m complaining, that’s good – it’s wonderful to be in demarned but there are times when I wish I had a little more time to myself. It takes me a very long time to do simple things due to my dislexia so I have to work extra hard which doesn’t leave much time for me. I’m always exorsted by the end of the day and when my head hits the pillow I’m out like a light!
Today I was performing my 1920s and 30s “Putting on the Ritz” show in Milton Keynes for a nursing home. In my job I have to do it all from large to tiny shows and an awful lot in between. I wore my 1920s teracotta dress as pictured only to be asked by one old lady “Why are you wearing that dress”? “It must be at least 100 years old and it’s horible”!

Don’t you just love old dears! I’ve decided that when I go into a home I’m going to be a right old bat and give the entertainers hell! “You call that singing I can’t hear you”! – And stuff like that! Tomorrow I’m doing the 1950s and 60s in Beaconsfield and then I have two shows on Wednesday so lots to do.
This morning I recived the stangest thing in the post – Membership to the Spivs Union. I never knew there was one! Up to now I’ve only ever been a member of Equity athough reading through the rules I don’t think I quilify. I’m far too honest. Mind you I think I can do rule 6. All members must wear the official spiv uniform – shoulders to be not less than 46″ wide. Yep I can do that one! Aparently there is a “Spivs Gazette” and even a funny hand shake! Oh what fun next time I bump into a fellow spiv I shall enjoy the play of it! The Spivs union even has it’s own motto “Spiv and Let Spiv” mine ofcourse is
setet fortuna domus – May the Fortune of the House Endure!
Ha ha Toodle Pip!

The wonderful thing about my job is I can get a call from out of the blue and before I know it I’m off on the road again and belive it or not that is exactly what happened to me yesterday. I was all set to do a 2pm “We’ll Meet Again” uniform show in Aylesbury when I got a call at 1pm to go down to Hayling Island as their singer had been taken ill and couldn’t go on as Vera Lynn. No problem I said – so I did my 2pm show – through a change of clothes in a bag and drove down To Hayling in ATS uniform.
I was booked to sing at Mill Rythe Holiday Village a place I’ve played many times before. Last year I did alot of “We’ll Meet Again” shows for them as a fill in while their in house entertainments team put their own 1940s Vera Lynn Story show together. However the thing about live entertainment is people do fall ill from time to time and it was just luck I was able to step in. Ofcourse I don’t exspect to hear from them again but the gypsy in me just loves to rome and I enjoy going where I please at the drop of a hat. Not everyone will be able to understand that but to be an entertainer you have to be a free spirit and given the freedom to fly and boy do I love to fly!
Needless to say my show went down really well and it was great to see the Mill Rythe entertainments team and band again. A few new faces and thank-you Bill for doing such a wonderful job on sound. I have a great fondness for holiday centres as I was once a red coat. Some of my first professional engagements involed working the Butins and Pontins circite before moving into Theatre and the world of re-anactment. I always like to stay over and I even made it back for my 1pm lunch appointment with my actress friend Betty Page so a busy week all in all.
This weekend I’m back at my desk. I have to crack on with paper work as I have lots of new contracts to do and e-mails to answer so maybe tonight I might give myself a night off and watch a film. How rare is that.
Thank-you for following and Toodle Pip for Now!
