NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

A Day at Shuttleworth!

Out and about at Shuttleworth!

Today I have been out and about at Old Warden Park in Bedfordshire looking at the Shuttleworth Collection. Next week I’m booked to sing as part of their Flying Proms concert so it’s an event I’m looking forward to performing at very much. Today I was invited by the events organiser for a  guided tour around the museum and what a wonderful museum it is too. I have posted up my photos on my facebook page so do take a look by clicking onto the link http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fiona-Harrison-A-Voice-in-a-Million/143965822288531
I’ve also posted up a link to the museum collection too. www.shuttleworth.org

Me with a 1937 Railton!

If you click on the link and events you can read up about next Saturday’s concert. I shall be on at 6.30pm with my WAAF show and then back on at 8pm with songs from the 1940s and 50s. They will have vintage aeroplanes flying while the National Symphony Orchestra play and a firework finale. So a great night and it’s one of those events where you bring a picnic too so I can’t wait.
Today was great fun looking around the museum and I did rather fall in love with this 1937 Railton. I’m on the look-out for a beautiful 1920s 30s car for a photo shoot and I think this Railton might be just what I’m looking for – so food for thought.

Me at Shuttleworth!

The wonderful thing about Shuttleworth is they have carriages, cars and planes from about 1870 to 1960s which is a little like me and the music I perform. The organisers have already asked me to perform for their World War One event next year so I have a feeling next year is going to be a very exciting year for me. With so many anniversaries taking place my diary is filling up and I’ve already been booked for a couple of WW1 events already.
This weekend I’m enjoying some time out but I still have loads of paper work to do and I must sit down and do some sewing tonight. All those little sewing jobs I’ve been meaning to get on with but haven’t quite found the time for.
On that note I shall sign off and get my needle out. Thank-you for following have a wonderful weekend and Toodle Pip!

The Great Train Robbery!

My home town of Linslade – Leighton Buzzard is back in the news tonight with it being 50 years since the great train robbery. In fact there has been a steady flow of people through today to look at the bridge where it all took place. To be honest the bridge is nothing special to look at very ordinary and non discript so I’m sure it must have been very disappointing to all those people who came along to see it today. There is nothing Disney about that bridge!
It’s only a stones throw from where I live and I often drive under it on my way to shows. Something I did today infact! I’ve just been watching a program about the robbery tonight and it’s great to see all the old footage. The court where the trial took place has now been turned into flats and it’s on Wing Road not far from where I live. It’s great to see the old films and to see how Wing Road looked back in 1963. It really hasn’t changed very much at all. Just alot more cars now!
Today I had an 11am show in Chalfont St Peter but to my shock and horror the battery had gone in my alarm clock. When I woke I thought it was 7am thinking I had another hour in bed not realising it was 9am. When I realised it was 9.25am and I had to be on the road for 9.30am. Forchatly I always lay out my clothes for the morning so a quick wipe round with a wet wipe I had breakfast while I was doing my hair and out the door I shot leaving at 9.45am. That is a record for me but I arrived and started my show on time so all’s well that ends well!
Tomorrow I’m in Biggleswade and I’m taking some time out this weekend. I’ve been invited to a party on Saturday and my friend Bill has invited me for a trip on his barge – so I shall be sailing down The Grand Union Canal on Sunday.
That’s about all my news for tonight. Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Check Out my New FAQ Page!

Just a quick blog tonight to let you know my new FAQ page at long last is now up and running on my web-site. It’s been ages in the planning but I’m really pleased with it and it gives the answers to all  those questions I’m often being e-mailed about. So I hope you all enjoy the page and the photos too.
It’s great to see the web-site taking shape and I have lots of plans for the future with many more pages to go up in time. Thank-you for all your comments about my new Sound of Music video I’m pleased you’ve been enjoying it. This is the sort of music I grew up with and it’s nice to go back to my roots and be all Julie Andrews again. Just like Julie I like good diction! I hate it when I can’t hear the words!
After a very busy couple of months I’m pleased to say I have a few days to get my feathers straight again and catch up on my paper work. Having a week in bed did rather put me behind but I am starting to get straight again and I have my accounts to write up too.
Today I saw my accountant as I had a meeting with H M Revenue and Customs. It’s something all small businesses have to go through where they send someone to check on your book keeping and to see if you keep proper accounts. In fact the gentleman from Revenue and Customs told me my book keeping was excellent – no worries there – so onward and upwards as they say!
Well Must Dash as I have a few more contracts and e-mails to answer before bed.
Keep Watching and enjoy my new page Toodle Pip!

Back from Colchester and me all Julie Andrews!

Me in Full Song!

It really has been a wonderful weekend and I’m just back from singing for a 1940s event at The East Anglian Railway Museum in Colchester. I know the organisers had been really worried as so many of their Volunteers had been taken ill but in the true spirit of the Theatre the show must go on and what a great event it turned out to be too. It was my first visit to Colchester and being a new event I was really looking forward to it and what a fab location the museum is. I’m always looking for good locations for photo shoots and in the goods shed where I was performing they had some beautiful Victorian Railway carriages. I’ve just recently bought myself a Victorian out fit so naturally it did rather set my mind working. Mind you I’m already booked to do a 1920s and 30s photo shoot later this month at a Stately home but I do feel very inspired!

I’m already booked to return to the Museum in September for a 1940s themed Wedding and what a great venue the goods shed makes as it is acoustically perfect. The museum is very forward thinking and they have already set their 1940s dates for next year. They are also thinking of holding a WW1 event so I hope that comes off as I’ve been investing in my WW1 act in prep for the centenary for next year!
On this occasion I wasn’t working alone I had booked sound engineer Stefen Challis who I have worked with many times before and who is just brillant at his job. I have booked Stefen to do sound for me at Chatham this year and he will be working the Spitfire Stage with me as I’m also booked to compere with Maddy Brown. So another 1940s event I’m looking forward to singing at very much.
Back to Colchester and the East Anglian Railway Museum I was booked to perform 3 x 45 minute shows daily. Over the course of the weekend I did ATS, WRNS, WAAF, “Stars and Stripes” my “Hooray for Hollywood” show and an American Glamour Swing show all of which went down really well. While I was there I met up with Bev and Richard who do 1940s talks and they had put together a wonderful display of War time sewing memorabilia.  I also met another gentleman who brought along his display of model trains each one he had made from match sticks. Hours and hours of work and it was fascinating to look at them all.

A train made from match-sticks

The Museum also had a double decker bus running which took us on a tour around the village and after my “Stars and Stripes” show I was pleased to have a ride. So often when I am singing at these events I don’t get the chance to go on the attractions. So a big thank-you to every-one at the museum for making it such a success especially Nigel, Michelle, Jaki and Mark. So here’s to the next one! I must also say a big thank-you to John Coates who has very kindly sent me his photos from the weekend. Sadly I forgot to charge the battery in my camera so I wasn’t able to take any photos myself so John has very kindly sent me his instead. So do check out my face book page where you can see many more and thank-you John for letting me use yours.  Great shots! 😉

Today I have been with Rachel my web-designer and it wont be long before you can see my new FAQ page on my web-site. All being well that should be up-loaded by tomorrow evening. I’m really pleased with the way the page is looking as it answers all those little questions I’m constantly being e-mailed about – so it should make things so much easier for every-one. We also up loaded my new Sound of Music video today. It’s me being ever-so Julie Andrews in Aspley Guise as I didn’t have the budget for Austria so if you get the chance do take a look. You can find the film by clicking onto my You Tube channel on my web-site or by going onto my face book page so enjoy! www.fionaharrison.biz
Tomorrow I’m with my accountant bright and early so I must get a good nights sleep.
Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!
