NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

From Halloween to Warwick!

Me with Junor as The Phantom of the Opera!

These last few days I have been going over songs in prep for my Halloween show which I’m not long back from and I’m thrilled to say all went well. In truth I had not sung alot of these songs for a while but the pratice really paid off and I didn’t make one mistake – what a relief phew!
As a child I use to love Halloween but in those days there was none of this buy a costume in a packet rubbish – you had to make everything yourself! My father made me a witches hat out of black cartridge paper and wood glue so it would be really strong and my Great Aunt made me a cloak out of black out curtains she had kept from the 1940s. My favourite book was Jill Murphy’s “The Worst Witch” and with my long plats I didn’t look that dissimilar to the main character Mildred Hubble. I still have that book today and the illustrations are beautiful. The fore runner to Harry Potter!
When it came to what to wear today I choose a plain red dress which I accessorised with my sparkly spider broach and spider head dress. Most of the songs in my Halloween show are from the Big Band and swing era so I didn’t want anything too costumey which is why I went for glamour. My red dress is lovely to wear with a fabulous swish to the skirt! Needless to say I had to make the most of that during “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Witchcraft” – swish swish!
Tomorrow I’m heading off to Warwick for a show and I’m thinking I might stay an extra night. Warwick is one of those places I’ve passed through many times on my way to somewhere but never had the chance to visit. Saturday I was supposed to be in Didcot at the Civic Hall but sadly the booking fell through so it has given me a free evening. I shall see how I feel but I quite fancy having a look at the castle and I believe there are one or two rather nice Antique shops which I might visit if I get the chance. We will just have to see. With regards this weekend I shall make it up as I go along and see where the mood takes me but what ever happens I must be back for “The Paradise” and “Downton Abbey” on Sunday evening – My favourite I can’t resist a costume Drama!
Monday I’m out bright and early – I’m back in the recording studio. I have some new medley arrangements I want to put into production and with the centenary I’m investing into WW1. So lots happening.
Oh that reminds me do check out your Best of British magazine this November and my new advert on page 53. I’ve gone World War One with a touch of Evette the Spivette so I hope you all like the design. It shouldn’t be long now before you can see my new articles page on my web-site. I know Rachel is working on it as I write so keep watching and I shall keep you posted.
That’s about all my news for now as I must do my packing!

Getting Set for Halloween and Remberance!

Hello every-one this weekend I have been out and about singing from the 1950s and 60s doing Big Band and Swing and on Monday I was booked to do a “Hooray for Hollywood” Show so it’s been another busy weekend. On Monday I was working with a new sound engineer. He was a little nervous but did a super job. So well done Robin it’s always a bit daunting to start with but you did really well and should feel very proud!
I’m now starting to get everything together for the 31st when I head off to Slough to perform my Halloween show. To be honest I haven’t sung some of these songs for a while so I must do a bit of revision before I put on my Witchy Poo outfit for the 31st! I still haven’t found the perfect Halloween dress not that I’m short of outfits but I really do fancy something in orange. I have a rather nice sparkly spider broach which I bought especially for my Halloween shows so at the moment I am wearing it on red but I think orange would look better!

My Spider Broach!

Today has been one of those days where I have been tieing up all those lose ends. Taking back library books answering e-mails and sorting out contracts. I also went over to Pitstone today to see my friend Joe who works tirelessly collecting for the Poppy apeal. He is already on his 4th tin and at this time of year he stands outside Masons Stores collecting. A great man and a great friend! Well Done Joe we are all very proud of you!
Tomorrow I’m in Oxford meeting up with my French friends who are here on holiday and then I’m in Warwick at the weekend so lots to do and people to see.
Must dash as I still have lots more paper work to do. Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Getting Ship Shape, French and looking to the Future!

These last few days I have been working non-stop trying to get all my paper- work Ship Shape and up to scratch. Tonight I have been sending out posters and typing up contracts for 2014. I really wish there were more hours in the day. This afternoon I was singing in Biggleswade at the Day Care centre and while I was there I met a lady from France. It’s always interesting to meet someone from the country of the langue you sing in to hear the accent. After my show I sang for her in French and I’m so pleased to report I passed! Although after listening to her speak I can hear room for huge improvement on my part!
I’m so English!
I’ve been thinking a great deal about my web-site and how I can improve it. If you read my last blog you will know I want to go mobile by the end of 2014. Skys the limit and I need to be more creative in my designing. After all you don’t have to limit yourself to just thinking up and down like a scroll but you can also think across now too. Most people have a wider computer screen which has set me thinking about how I might like to fill that space!
I do have a new page which will be added to my sight very shortly. It will be my Articles page where you will be able to read all my features. I’m already working on next Aprils article so more of that nearer the time.
I must get to bed now as I’m struggling to keep my eyes open.
Keep Following and Toodle Pip!

GI Jive, Going Mobile and Come Dine With Me!

Today I have been out and about meeting up with my web-designer Rachel and talking about the future. The modern world is moving so fast and the speed of technology is ever changing. I plan to make my web-site mobile by the end of 2014 which means it will change shape and adapt to what ever devise you look at it on be it a mobile phone, tablet or PC. It’s a big out lay but it’s important to stay ahead of the game so lots to think about!

Olive Skirt – Winter Service Uniform

In the mean time Rachel and I have added in a few new pictures to my 1940s page. We have included my new GI Jive show which now gives me 11 costume shows for the 1940s and I’m pleased to say bookings are starting to build for 2014/15. It’s important to keep things fresh and there seems to be a lot of interest in my American shows particularly the new GI Jive one. I was able to pick up the WAC jacket when I was performing in France earlier this year and the rest of the uniform in the UK thanks to my friends Paul and Mike who helped to advise me. I can also do matching olive skirt or pinks with different shirt and tie combinations which just goes to show it’s all down to who you know! So I’m looking forward performing this show for my 2014 season!
Some of you may remember I was asked to sing on Come Dine with Me earlier this year and I heared today it will be televised on Tuesday the 5th November. I know I will look a complete fright as I had day make-up on and the lights they used were really bright – so I’m going to look like Queen Elizabeth the 1st as my red lips and blusher go bang! Needless to say I’m making a point of leaving the country for that day so if you do see it that might be a very good time to get up and make a cup of tea when I’m on!
Tomorrow I’m singing  the 1950s and 60s in Biggleswade and then it’s Big Band and Swing on Saturday.
Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!
