NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Getting With It!

Apart from a normal run of shows this week I have been out and about trying to get with it and be all modern. While I was in Milton Keynes on Tuesday I poped into PC World only to find myself completely out of place. Most of the gadgets on display I failed to  recognise and I was at a complete loss to know what any of them did. The only item I recognised was a kettle thanks to PC World joining forces with Currys!
It’s not until I enter stores like that that I realise I  really do live in a different century to every-one else! Wondering about in an ATS uniform is quite normal to me as I dash from show to show but I think I took the staff by surprise as a couple of them said I looked like I had just walked out of the 1940s. Which I suppose I do! In my home town of Leighton Buzzard no-one takes any notice . Every-one knows me as the local eccentric. “Oh that’s Fiona – she sings you know”!
Still sometimes one does have to face the modern world even though I spend much of my time hiding from it, I must accept the time has come for a new computer. My computer man has told me to get a new tower and I would best be suited to windows 7 but now everything is windows 8. Oh what a palaver it all is there is nothing I hate more than when people tell me I can get the item in queston on line. I’m very old school I like to go into a shop and buy it there and then! I suppose I will have to become Prude Jones take my tower in and get all my dater transferred while pretending I know what I’m doing! What a bother!
Back to singing I shall be down in Yeovil on Saturday for a private do and this Friday I shall be singing for the Ride High Ball in Milton Keynes so lots to do.
I hope it wont be long before you get to see my new articles page on my web-site. I have lots of new pages I would like to add but it might make sense to go mobile first. It’s just such a big out lay but I know it will be worth it in the end.
Oh don’t forget I will be releasing my new Christmas video the beginning of next month so Keep Watching and I shall keep you posted.
Toodle Pip and Bye for Now! 😉

We’ll Meet Again and Remberance!

For all my blog followers out there you will know these last few days have been prity non stop which is why I haven’t posted much this weekend. On Friday I was performing at my old school Leighton Middle telling the children about how social and political events brought about the changes in popular music during WW2. It’s always great fun going into schools as the children are so full of life and I enjoy harnessing their energy and enthusiasm. Of course the queston I always get asked is “Did you serve in WW2” and the other one – Are you famous? Which always makes me chuckle!

I always reply “No I’m not famous -I’m just known”! and I guess after Come Dine with Me that must be so now ha ha!
Saturday was crazy with a 2.15pm show in Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire and then a quick dash up to St Helens in Merseyside for a 9.30pm start. I’m not sure how I did it as it was tight for time but I did and the show couldn’t have gone better. I was booked to sing at the Rainford Village Hall which is a lovely venue and a good size too. So much better than your average Village Hall by far which can comfortable seat 200 people. Just before I came on they had The Rainford Concert Band who played beautifully and who are of a very high standard. The night was a complete sell out so much so that the organiser put on two nights.

My Old School Leighton Middle!

Sadly I couldn’t do the Friday night as well so I recommended Trumpet player Ricky Hunter who was a complete wow and went down a storm! Two great nights!
Sunday I had a show in Luton which I dashed back for and I have been singing again today with it being remembrance. I’ve shows all this week and on Friday I’ve two shows back to back before heading off to sing for the Ride High Ball in the evening! Much to do and then I’m back on the road again for Saturday as I make it down to Yeovil.
It’s hard to believe but I start my Christmas season in two weeks time Scary or What!
Well must go as I feel really tied and I need my bed.
Thank-you for following and Toodle Pip for Now!

Remberance, 1914, Come Dine with Me & Back to School!

Me with Joe Marling The Poppy Man of Pitstone!

It wont come as any surprise to learn that tonight was the night when I went out on national TV and sang on “Come Dine with Me”.Thank-you every-one for your kind comments and to the lovely Kim who did my Sound and Hair and to Peter Pickering who invited me to sing at his party. I know no-one is allowed to say who wins until Friday’s program has been aired but I think Peter is in with a very good chance! I really did like the look of his Bread and Butter pudding! Yummy! Of course Kim and I never saw the meal we were hiding in the House Keepers Cottage ready to spring out when called. So it was lovely to see Peter’s Dinner as he prepared it!
This week I’m getting all set for Remembrance weekend and what a weekend I have a head of me too. Friday I shall be returning to Leighton Middle School and teaching two classes back to back about World War Two Music. My lesson plan concentrates on 4 different types of music – Big Band and Swing, Sing-along, Patriotic and Novelty songs and how social and political events brought about the changes in popular music during the 1940s. I also bring along props and visual aids, which reminds me – I hope my mother hasn’t eaten up all the spam again. I will have to check the cupboard! One thing – Spam does have a long self life but not with my mother around!

Saturday is going to be crazy I have a 2.15pm show in Sawbridgeworth in Herts and then I have to dash all the way up to St Helens in Lancashire to be on stage for 9.30pm in the evening. I’m staying over in St Helens and then dashing back to Bedfordshire on Sunday to be on stage at 3pm in Luton. Mad or what but exciting! I love my life!
I shall be in Milton Keynes on Monday for the 11th and then the following weekend I will be down in Somerset performing at Yeovil so busy busy!
I hope you all have your Poppys for remembrance. The other day I visited my friend Joe Marling in Pitstone who stands out-side Mason’s Stores collecting for the Poppy Appeal. If you haven’t bought your poppy yet do pay him a visit as he is very keen to beat his target from last year!
2014 is starting to take shape and I’m looking forward to playing lots of WW1 events next year. I don’t know many entertainers who cover this period and on Monday I was in the recording studio sorting out some new medleys for my WW1 shows. For me it’s always like Christmas every time I pick up a new track from Richard. He does all my musical arrangements and each one is worth it’s weight in gold. I’ve known Richard years and I greatly prize his talent and skill. I also recorded a few sound sample for my web-site which I hope to add in with a new video page. This page will be easier to do when my web-site goes mobile so lots to plan for. In the mean time I hope it wont be long now before you see my new articles page so Keep Watching and I shall keep you posted.
Must dash as I still have some e-mails to do before bed.

Wonderful Warwick and Back in the Studio!

Me at Warwick Castle!

The thing I love best about my job is I get to go everywhere and this weekend I was singing in Warwick for a Birthday Party. As my Saturday job fell through I decided to stay on an extra night and see some of the sights. So I went and visited the castle.
If you have never been – there is something a little Disney about the whole thing with wax works in every room and lots of characters wondering about from black death victims to dashing 18th century soldiers and robbers! Great fun! Dare I say just right for the Americans – who will go away thinking Warwick Castle was money well spent with enough entertainment factor!
I had a great time and enjoyed the swash buckling show on the battlements between our hero and villain but then I am very theatrical and I quite fancy one of those 18th century coats myself. They have such a lovely swish to the skirt which our hero used to full advantage. If I had been playing that roll I would have done the same – swish swish! I do love 18th century fashion!

Meeting the Wax Works!

There is much to see at the castle with wax works which tell the story of the King Maker and the War of the Roses to Edwardian house parties and mistresses of the King. I even went on the Haunted walk and ended up at the Skeleton Arms Hotel. To be honest it reminded me of a hotel I stayed at in London last year so no surprises there! I got a lollipop never-the -less but then that’s showbiz I could write a book about my life on the stage and some of the deadly hotels I’ve stayed at. It would make fascinating reading!

The Skeleton Arms!

It’s so important to take opportunities as and when they come your way and sometimes I stubble upon things quite by chance like Wylies Tea rooms in The Old Iron Yard. I mentioned I was heading off to Warwick Castle and the waitress told me about Kenilworth Castle so I made a point of visiting  today on my way home. Kenilworth must be the inspiration for that Marie Loyd number “A Bit of a Ruin that Cromwell Knocked about a Bit”. Sadly all that remains in tact now is the gate house which was wonderful to see and the stable block which now makes up the English Heritage Tea Room. No waxworks or dancing skeletons here and why should there be just heaps of history as it should be told! I expect in the Summer when the garden is in full bloom it’s really beautiful.
Tomorrow I’m in the recording studio bright and early as I want to record a couple of songs for my web-site and put some World War One music into production for next year. My WW1 bookings are starting to pick up so next year is going to be an interesting year with all the anniversaries taking place.
That’s all my news for now keep watching and thank-you for following.
