NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Take Me Out, Articles and a Silent Night!

What an extraordinary week it’s been this week with me receiving a call for a chance to take part in a TV show called “Take me Out”. Many of you may have seen the TV show as it is a modern take on Blind Date. Oddly enough a TV show I was on back in the early 90s with Cilla Black. But if I’m honest when I was contacted by the Take me Out team I had never seen the show. I’m always out working Saturday nights singing and when it comes to I player I have so little spear time that if I watch anything at all it’s usually a costume drama like Downton!
I was first contacted by Take me Out back in September who asked me along to an audition in Birmingham. To be honest I was so different to all the other girls in the room I never expected to hear any more only they kept sending me e-mails and then to my surprise I got the call to go to the studio. Mind you not that I was there very long as it was decided I stood out far too much from the line up and it was suggested I might be a bit too bright!
Mmmm How little the world changes when it comes to the role of women in popular TV shows and what a shame TV has to play into the hands of stereotypes. What I can’t understand is how I got that far in the first place when it was they who contacted me and it was clear from the out set I was always going to be different! Unless of course it was the host Paddy who thought I might have been too much of a handful – we will never know!
Mind you most men find me very scary so it’s probably just as well I have my singing to keep me out of trouble!
Back to reality and this next month is going to be non stop with 43 shows in the diary with the Christmas season. I’m really pleased to announce I’ve just launched my new Christmas video “Silent Night”. Something really special for Christmas and my favourite carol too so do take a look. I will try and attach it to this blog but if I can’t get it to work you can always watch my video by clicking onto my web-site and clicking the You Tube button in the top left corner. It’s the first video you come to.www.fionaharrison.biz
As so many of you already know who follow my blog I’m going mobile next year with my web-site and as you can imagine it’s a very big out lay but it will be worth it in the end. There are lots of new pages I want to add to my sight but it’s important we get the technology it up to date before we go any further so watch this space and I shall keep you posted. In the mean time Rachel has just completed my Articles page where you can find all my Fashion features in one place. I’m very proud of this page mainly because I find writing very difficult being dyslexic and I get a great sense of achievement because it is so hard for me. If you want to get good at something you have to really work hard at it and I think I am getting better!
Tomorrow I must go over all my Christmas songs and get ready for my first Christmas show on Sunday. Well that’s all my news for now Keep Watching Thanks for Following and Toodle Pip!

From Worlds End to Winchester and All Set for Christmas!

Me with Lynda Styan!

Hello every-one it’s been another busy weekend with me working Saturday night with the lovely ukulele player and singer Lynda Styan at The Chairmakers Arms at Worlds End nr Denmead. To be honest I had no idea that such a place as Worlds End existed – but it really does!
Linda and I were booked to do a 1930s and 40s night and what a great evening it turned out to be too. We were asked to fill an evening with 1930s and 40s entertainment from 8pm through to 11pm so Lynda and I both did an hour set each and then we came back and did the finale together and finished with lots of flag waving as we sang The White Cliffs of Dover and Land of Hope and Glory. It was the first time I had had the pleasure of working with Lynda and we hit it off very well. We both take great care in our presentation and like me Lynda is a soprano who has had a simlar singing training to myself so our voices sound good together.

Winchester’s Market Cross

Thank-you for inviting me to join you Lynda it was lovely to work with you and here’s to the next one! xx
I usually like to stay over so on Sunday I made the point of visiting Winchester as it isn’t that far away from Worlds End. The only problem was it was the start of Winchester’s Christmas market so by the time I arrived I couldn’t get a parking space for love nor money so rather miffed I drove off to the village of Alresford and decided to have lunch at The Bell. www.bellalresford.com
As it turned out that was the best thing I could have done as The Bell do a fantastic menu and I was really ready for my lunch. However not one to be defeated I decided to brave Winchester again and by about 4pm much of the traffic had gone as I particularly wanted to see the Cathedral. In the centre of Winchester they have a market cross which isn’t that dissimilar to the one we have in Leighton Buzzard so I had to take a picture

Me Out and About in Alresford!

Sadly many of the photos I took inside the Cathedral didn’t come out as it was dusk and getting very dark but what was magical was the singing. They had a group performing Taize’ music which is a region in France and includes many chants which are sung in four part harmonies. Walking around the cathedral it was wonderful to hear and really made my visit!
I have a very busy week ahead of me as I’m away tomorrow and depending on how things go I may not be back until the 30th. Then it’s straight into Christmas shows on the 1st and I’m fully booked right through until the 31st so busy busy.
Today I have been with my web-designer Rachel and tomorrow Rachel hopes to get my new Articles page up on my web-site, so do look out for that. I shall be away but I’m looking forward to seeing it when I get back. We shall also be launching my new Christmas video on the 1st so keep watching and I shall keep you posted!
I’m also pleased to announce I will be returning to Normandy for D-Day next year for the 70th anniversary and this time I will be singing for the American end in Ste Marie du Mont. My new GI Jive show has proved to be very popular but more about that in the new year. In the mean time it’s late and I must get to bed as I’m up and out early in the morning.
Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Singing for the Royal British Legion and WW1

Today I have been out and about singing for The Women’s Section of The Royal British Legion for Buckinghamshire’s Annual Conference in Quainton. I sang at their conference 2 years ago and this is where I met my friend Kim for the first time. Kim often works with me as my sound engineer but today she was doing her thing for the RBL as standard bearer – and very good she is at it too. Well done Kim you were excellent. There is a lot of skill needed for standard bearer and the way you made it through the door was most impressive! Had that have been me I would have sceward the door frame!
Today I was booked to do my American glamour Swing Show although I did bend the rules a bit and finished my set with Land of Hope and Glory. You can’t really go wrong with that one when you are entertaining a Royal British Legion and I was pleased I had bent the rules. Listening to the various reports there was a lot of talk and interest in next years Centenary for WW1. I’ve already sold 9 WW1 shows for 2014 and I’m pleased to say I seem to be bang on trend. I’m investing quite heavily into the music of this period for next year and some of the songs I’ve chosen are fantastic so I’m looking forward to performing them very much. It does make a change from the 40s and I’m so lucky I’m able to have all my music tailor made to my own arrangements. It means anything is possible! It can be quite exciting going through old sheet music note bashing away until you find that forgotten gem – putting it into production and then – hey presto – performing it! I think 2014 is going to be an exciting year with lots of new opportunities.
This weekend I will be working with singer and Ukulele player Lynda Styan at Worlds End nr Denmead. I’ve never been to Worlds End before only it sounds like the sort of place you find in a Pirate film but I expect it’s charming.
Well that’s about all my news for now Keep Watching and thanks for following!

Black Tie Balls, Yeovil and Lyme Regis!

Me out-side the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis!

This weekend has been a real mix bag of shows from ATS We’ll Meet Again shows to smart vintage glamour ones. For those of you who follow my blog will know I was booked to sing for the Ride High Black Tie Ball in Milton Keynes on Friday for the VIPs drinks reception. I was also a prize in the charity auction so it will be interesting to see who bought my show. My feet haven’t touched the ground so I expect I will be receiving a call very soon to arrange the particulars.
Saturday I was booked to play in Yeovil for a 1940s night at The Westland Leisure Complex. It’s a fantastic venue with a large ballroom and the organisers put on a wonderful meal with the show.

The Marine Theatre!

It was my first time in Yeovil but I hope it wont be my last. The audience loved my show and I sold lots of CDs too so here’s hopping!
I’ve been making a point to try and relax abit more when I’m on the road and to see something of the local sights. On the way down I even caught a glimpse of Stonehenge! I’ve had a very busy year so I’ve been treating myself to a few extended stays away. This Sunday I decided to visit the town of Lyme Regis. Back in the early 00s I played the Marine Theatre with my “We’ll Meet Again” and “From Cobbles to Rock” show so it was lovely to see the theatre again after all this time. I even went and had lunch at The Pilot Boat which is just across the road from the theatre. I can remember eating there before the shows last time so lots of happy memories!

Me stuck in Traffic on the A303!

To-day I was on the road again making my way home only to get stuck in terrible traffic on the A303. But all was not lost I managed to turn off and ended up in the village of Mere. As it was lunch time I decided to stop at an old English pub called The George and enjoyed a great pub lunch. It was the best thing I could have done as the traffic had cleared by the time I hit the road. Every cloud has a silver lining and had there not been a traffic jam I would never have discovered the village of Mere and The George. Fate can be a wonderful thing!
The only down side is I need to get back in the gym tomorrow. All this staying away is starting to

The George Inn at Mere!

play havic with my waist line which wont do at all!
We’ll that’s about all my news for now!
On Thursday I will be singing for the Royal British Legion in Quainton so I’m looking forward to that before going all Christmasy on the 1st.
We’ll must dash as I’m dying to get to bed. Keep Watching and thank-you for following Toodle Pip and Bye for Now!
