NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Good King Wenceslas to Neil Sedaka!

It’s still only the 11th December and I’ve already done 16 shows and still trucking along! Busy day tomorrow with two Christmas shows to do and one 1950s and 60s Rock and Roll one booked in for the evening so I don’t want to be up too late tonight blogging.
I have notice that when I come to sing the Christmas Carol sections in my shows audiences are galloping away with Good King Wenceslas – so I’ve taken to conducting! I’ve had all sorts happen! Buffets being served and fire alarms going off in a Silent Night not to mention one gentleman telling me today how much he enjoyed my show despite being stone deaf. Apparently he enjoyed looking at my legs! Mmmm not sure what to make of that one – I think he was paying me a compliment!
While I’m driving along and dashing from show to show I like to research and listen to music I might think of doing. I’m looking at expanding my 1960s repertoire and today it was the turn of Neil Sedaka. The CD did make me chuckle – how music production has changed form the 50s and 60s. What struck me was how crudely mixed it was with certain instruments being far too promment – and as for that “Oh Carol” song I couldn’t stop laughing particularly when we came to the naff spoken word bit in the middle. I guess it was a different time but how anyone would be able to keep a straight face is beond me! However saying that I did like “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen”, “Calendar Girl”, “Breaking up is Hard to Do” and “Little Devil” which wouldn’t seem out of place in my Halloween show. But I think we will give “I Go Ape” a wide berth and the less said about Sedaka’s verson of “Bess You is My Woman Now” the better! Gershwin will be turning in his grave – I didn’t know weather to laugh or cry!
Bedtime now so I must say Goodnight.
More news to follow soon so thanks for following and Toodle Pip

Singing for the Historical Society and a Carousel!

Once again it’s just a very quick blog today as I dash between shows after a really busy weekend. On Saturday night I was singing for Houghton Regis Historical Society having been booked to do 3 x 45 min sets. One ATS one 1940s glamour and one 50s and 60s Rock and Roll so by the end of the evening I was really tied as each set required a costume change and I had done a Christmas party in the afternoon before hand! Phew! It was a lovely do and everyone had dressed up for the occasion so I was really pleased to have been chosen to entertain. I also used my bigger rig which in it’s self gave me a good work out and I confess there are times when I wish I was a man! I’m quite strong and I do train my body to throw up speakers but when you are tied it can be hard going – not that I ever let it show! They don’t call me Rhino Woman for nothing! Connie has made such a difference to my life because at least when I turn up to a job I’m confident I have everything I need in my van and if I need my bigger rig I have it to hand!
Yesterday I was over in Saffron Walden singing for another Christmas party and today I’m singing in Milton Keynes. Tonight I’m seeing my dress maker Judi as I’m in need of some new outfits and in desperate need of some new trousers. Everything in the shops these days seems to be skinny fit which isn’t me at all. I like a wide leg with a turn up 1940s style to go with my knit wear and hacking jackets.

Last weekend when I was in Leighton Buzzard they had the Christmas fair and were setting up the Carousel. When every I see a carousel I think of Rodgers and Hammerstein and that wonderful piece of music. I was trying to catch up on my Christmas Shopping while humming that tune about town which reminds me I must get on with my Christmas cards.
Gosh just seen the time must get to my next show.
Keep Watching and Toodle Pip!

Between Shows and Looking Glamorous!

I’m pleased to say I’m now in full swing for Christmas and doing my best to look glamorous as I dash from show to show. I have a very full weekend planned and on Sunday I will be playing in Essex in the village of Saffon Walden so looking forward to that one very much.
Today I was singing in my home town of Leighton Buzzard and I spent the morning in the hair dresses. I also took Connie in for a service as just like me she has alot of work to do over the next few weeks and it’s important we are both tip top!
I’m not long back from dinner as my actress friend Betty Page invited me out this evening with her daughter Lynda and friend Chris so it’s been a really lovely evening catching up and having a good old girly natter.
I met Betty back in 1989 when we worked together in the musical Annie. She played Miss Hannigan and I was cast as Grace Farrell – Warbucks secretary. 89 was a fantastic year and we both have some great memories of that time so it wont come as any surprise to learn we have been friends ever since. I get on very well with Betty’s daughter Lynda too. She is ex Royal Ballet so we have alot in common as I inisaly trained in dance and always loved Ballet best! Tonight we were served by a very dishy waiter called Mat. Lovely biceps and pecks – very yummy and the meal was excellent too so I think we can say we all had a jolly lovely time!
Must get to bed as I’m back on the road tomorrow. Keep Watching and Toodle Pip!

Stepping into Christmas in my Beautiful Green 40s Shoes!

It’s just a quick blog tonight as I dash between shows and keep you up to date with my world. Firstly thank-you every-one for your kind comments on my new Christmas Video “Silent Night”. I’m so pleased you have been enjoying it but then Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas with-out “Silent Night” and I do enjoy singing it very much. Last night I was entertaining a Ladies Club in Watford and that carol went down really well along with my Ave Maria. I had hoped to attach the video to my last blog but as you must of guessed I wasn’t able to do it being technically backward. However I was able to do Facebook and it looks like most of you were able to find it there on my page. So thank-you every-one for clicking on and watching!

With the Christmas season I’ve brought out my green dress which I must confess is one of my favourites along with my matching 1940s shoes. I adore these shoes but the down side is I can’t walk in them which is only a miner detail so I make a point of putting them on just before I step before the Mike. Only women will understand that but as you can see by the photo they are really too big for me. I’m a 4 where these are more a 5 and my foot doesn’t quite fill the sling back – but never mind I do love them and as I spent far too much money on them in the first place I have to make them work!
Tomorrow I’ve two shows back to back and I’m really getting into the swing of my Christmas shows now as I cover a broad array of Christmas music so lots of mixing involved when it comes to sound. Everything from Rocking Around the Christmas Tree to Ave Maria!
Well must dash, Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!
