NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Busy Week of Photo Shoots!

Is it just me or do you ever feel there aren’t enough hours in the day. I seem to spend all my time rushing from one job to another and as for   the time in the middle that’s just spent preping for the next show and sorting paperwork. Phew!
This week isn’t any different as I’ve already done two shows and tomorrow I will be doing a photo shoot on 1940s knit wear so I will be back up at Pitstone Museum being photographed only this time I wont be in jodpurs! (Oh that reminds me I must do my ironing!)
Friday is going to be another busy day as I’m in the hair dresses from 9.30am as I get ready to go all 18th centray. This week I have been on the look out for Borroc or Reccoco style jewrary and I’ve not had much luck although there are a lot of influences in design on the high street. I need something which looks spot on for the period so I’ve been making chokers and big bows for my Stumoker. I was able to pick up a really super broach while I was over in Biggleswade yesterday and I still have my cuffs to make. That’s the thing about 18th centrey fashion there are lots of little bits and you can’t ever have too many bows it’s a bit like Victorian fashion – only my orstraige feathers aren’t sitting right and they wont curl as they ought! Humm!
Oh I almost forgot – for those of you out there who love vintage fashion you may be intrested to know I’ve just had published another artical for The Best of British magazine on Glamour is Back or as they put it “Glam it Up!” You can catch me on page 66 and you can see my new advert on page 54. October’s isue is really intresting as there is a grate peice on Hollywood costume by Claire Saul on page 13 and an artical on Diana Dors on page 20. They also have a Doctor Who artical on page 34 by Simon Stabler so do pop down to W H Smiths and make shure you pick up a copy!
Well I’m going to have to dash now as I’m off to the theatre tonight to see “Dreamboats and Pettycoats” with my friend Betty Page so all those wonderful songs from the 1950s and 60s. Funny but that was the show I was doing earler today. Thanks for reading, keep watching and Bye for Now!

Back from Kew Bridge

It’s been a real action packed and busy few days. As many of you know I was singing this weekend at Kew Bridge Steam Museum and what a great place the Steam Museum is. It was my first time there and I made my way over on Friday night, only I got it mixed up with Brentwood when it is infact in Brentford. That’s dislexixa for you I often mis read and mix words up. Thank goodness for set nav that’s all I can say – forchantly I had put the post code in right but I thought for a while my sat nav had gone nuts before the penny droped. I had no idea how near Ealing Brentford is which I know quite well as I play the Number One Club there often!
I stayed over 2 nights at The Bridge Inn and dear I say it the hotel had a slight Faulty Towers quality. They do things very differently in London and although it wasn’t exspensive some of the things you take for granted in B&Bs in other parts of the county seemed to be missing. For example when I was shown to my room someone eles was already in it. The bath and shower room was shared. I had to ask for towels. I was given 2 and then one was removed the next day. Breakfast was continenle but no cousonts and the toaster only toasted one side of your toast. Oh and no car park – but I do have to admire the land lords wit! Welcome to London!
The 40s weekend at Kew Bridge was great and I met some wonderful people who work and volenteer at the museum. I also worked with a Lindy Hop group on the Saturday called Swingland and they were just great so I hope very much our paths cross again. It was just a shame they didn’t get a few more people through the doors as Kew Bridge has so much to offer and I came away very inspired and thinking about Steam Punk. Which for those of you in the know will know this is the next big thing so look it up. Must dash as I’m out tonight, Toodle Pip and Keep Watching!

It’s like a big pin board where people post photos and it is very poular with designers and performers such as myself. We shall be building in a link from my web-site very soon so do watch this space and I shall tell you more as and when we get it up and running. In the meantime you can find me on pintrest and I have a couple of boards you can look at Victorian / Music Hall costumes, Evette the Spivette, 1940s costumes, 1950s and 60s costumes and costumes genraly so if you get the chance do take a look. I’m still learning how to use it – and I confess I never really got to grips with twitter. I never found it visal enough so I hope you will follow me on Pintrest and ofcourse on Facebook too.
Talking about costumes I have another couple of photo shoots set up for next week which I want to get done before the weather breaks. I shall be doing a sweater girl shoot this Thursday and then an 18th centry one on Friday. So lots of wondering around grave yards looking Marie Antonettish (sorry can’t spell)
All being well I should be back blogging come Monday, Thanks for dropping in Do Keep Watching and Bye for Now!

A Simply Fantastic Weekend!

I’m just back from performing in Middlewich for their 1940s event and what a cracking weekend it’s been too. Friday night I was singing at the Royal British Legion with my ATS and Evette the Spivette shows (photo care of Cliff Astles) and then it was 3 x 45 min shows daily Sat and Sun with the whole town turning out to take part. Sunday morning I was performing in the church and I also sang Ave Maria as part of the service. That song sounds beautiful when sung in church and it’s lovely to do something clasical which makes a change from singing Run Rabbit all the time! I do like singing classical songs and arias because it takes me back to my roots and well sometimes it’s just nice to be a soprano – if you know what I mean!
I booked Stefen to work with me as my sound engineer and once again he did me proud so thank-you Stefen. It was also great to meet up with “Blitz and Peaces” and the Spitfire boys as we were all staying at the same pub “The Boars Head”. I felt quite spoilt come Saturday night as Stefen and I had the night off and we went and saw my friend Madeline Brown perform at “The Big Lock” by the canal. Super show Madie you were fantastic and no you are not Mad – You are an Artist and don’t ever change we love you just the way you are! xxx
Today despite the rain, we had a really good drive back and I can’t tell you what a difference it has made  having Connie the van. It’s wonderful having my own showmans wagon and has taken out so much of the stress I was experancing before!
So onward and upwards – I’m looking forward to having a bit of a rest before I head off to Kew Bridge Steam Museum for next weekend. In the mean time I have a 50s and 60s show to do on Wednesday and heaps of paper work to catch up on. Keep Watching, Toodle Pip and Bye for Now!
