NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Chichester and Russell and Bromley!

I’m not long back from a great weekend in Chichester and yes I was able to take my shoes into Russell and Bromley. I wasn’t quite sure what response I was going to get because when I complain about my shoes squeeking people normaly laugh. Not at Russell and Bromley they understood perfectly and knew what the problem was straight away. I exsplained I had bought the shoes from their store in November 1999 – I have a very good memory for fashion although they did asked me if I had the recipt still. Untill 2 years ago I did but I’ve since had a clear out! Then I brought out my 1940s ones and what a wow they caused. They are not use to getting shoes that old and I asked if they could repair the lace hole. Both pairs have now gone off so I’m hoping they can repair them and work their magic so fingers crossed as I wear both pairs alot!
Well I couldn’t let a trip to Chichester go by and not visit the cathedral and doesn’t it look wonderful too. I snaped this photo while I was standing out-side House of Fraser. While I was in town I had lunch at Bill’s. I was first introduced to Bill’s restaurant when I was in Brighton some years ago but I was never able to get a table as they were always fully book. They now have a resturant in Chichester and what they do is shabby chic – simple food with a twist! check out their web-site
www.bills-website.co.uk I had the Crab, Salmon and Chili fishcakes with skin on fries and very yummy it was too. Great resturant with great service! If ever you come across a Bill’s it’s well worth calling in for lunch!

There’s nothing I love more than pottering about and looking around the shops. Chichester is my favourite city for shopping as it’s not too big and it’s full of quality stores. I picked up in one of the charity shops a vintage Burbury mack which is going to come in very useful when I do my next photo shoot! I also picked up a lovely pair of navy shoes in House of Frazer but sadly the thigh boots I tried on were a little too small which was a shame as they would have worked beautiful for my Steam Punk look! Something eles I have been working on!
On the way back to the car park I came across this lovely green car. A passer by told me it was a Sprite and took my picture isn’t it beautiful I love the colour.
Today I visited Portchester Castle and the church of St Mary’s. It was built in the 1120s of Isle of Wight stone for a community of Augustin Monks so full of history. I love visiting old buildings and churches and on my way home I called into Berkhamstead and had a look around one of my favourite antique centres “Home and Colonial”. I caught their last 30 mins of opening and they have lots of lovely new Vintage clothes in stock so I must come back when I have more time. Tomorrow I’m singing for a wake and then its St Georges day so I’m fully booked for the 23rd.
Must Dash Thank-you for following keep watching and Toodle Pip!

Meeting with the Spirts!

Last night I was invited to a fortune telling party and what an intresting night it was too. I’ve not had my fortune told in years so I was a bit tentative as I seem to have had so much bad luck of late. I always like to take these things with a pinch of salt but if what she told me is true I’m looking foward to a great future – so here’s to that! One thing the psychic lady picked up on really quickly was that I was an entertainer and I will be heading out to America with a six month contract. It may well invole circus so could I be heading to Los Vagus I wonder? It’s funny but I was told that years ago and it never came to pass so it looks like it’s still in my future and perhaps I shouldn’t dismiss the chance of playing in American quite yet. I also wondered if the messages from these psychics get a little muddled as she told me I would have two cats and well that’s sort of happend. She said we would have a stray black and white cat who would be about 4 when he comes to live with us and well that sounds alot like Domino who died very recently. Howerver she seemed to think it was to happen and not in the past but I’m not too sure what Tigger would make of another cat moving in I don’t think he would like that!
She also said my father was watching over me and walked through the door with me as I came into the room. I’m not sure if my father would do that as in life he dismissed all this sort of thing as nonsence and hated to be proved wrong. I have a feeling as a spirt he wouldn’t show himself on princible just so he could say he was right!
It was a good night and thank-you Sue for inviting me I really enjoyed your Chilly Concarne Yummy!
This morning I was out note bashing my way through new songs with my pianist friend Ross as I have lots to learn. I also did a tea party this after noon which was quite charming as the room had been turned into an English garden with lots of flowers. Mind you I hope nobody noticed – but I had a bit of an issue with a giant pansy catching my speaker on it’s petal! Ops!
My 1940s shoes in need of repair!

This weekend I have decided to take some time out and I have made arrangements to go down to Chichester. I want to vist the cathedral again and I need to visit Russel and Bromley the shoe shop. I have a pair of shoes I bought from them in 1999 and they have now developed a squeak. I belive they do a good after care service and a pair of Russel and Bromley shoes should last a life time. I also have a navy pair from the 1940s with a brocken lace hole and who knows maybe they can repair those too! I don’t know if there is a cut off date with after care but I hope not. I shall let you know how I get on!
We’ll that’s all my news for now thank-you for following and fingers crossed I can get my shes repaired.
Toodle Pip and Bye for now!

Work Work Work!

For those of you who have been following my blogs you will know just how hard I’ve been working these last couple of months and I confess there are times when I wish I could just go to bed and sleep for 100 years! Not that I’m complaining at all – I love my work as I get to go everywhere and I meet such intresting people along the way! However looking at my most recent photos I can see how tired I am so I really must give myself some time off and let my body catch up a bit. Mind you I still went out running today which in the sunshine just felt great!
Thank-you everyone for your feed back about Bushey what a great event that was and it was lovely to hear just how much you enjoyed my shows so thank-you for surporting us all.
Today I have had a long meeting with my web-designer discussing how we can improve my web-site as I want to introduce a media page. But quite how I am going to design that I’m not quite sure but Rachel has given me lots of ideas and now I have to think out how is the best way to display all the information I have – and boy do I have alot! So watch this space!
Today I was also able to meet up with my friend Joe as we had a good chin wag over lunch which was just wonderful. Tomorrow I’ve been invited to a party where you have your fortune told so hopefuly it wont be all dome and gloom for me as I’m terably unlucky. When ever I meet Gypies in the street they always tell me I have a lucky face which I know I don’t! But then I guess they are trying to sell me their lucky heather!
Time for bed I think as I want to go to the gym tomorrow. I’m looking forward to giving my body a good work-out.
Toodle Pip and thanks for following!

Back from Bushey and the 1940s!

Joe Marling and all the Re-enacters with their Vehicles!

For those of you who joined us last weekend for The 40s Family Experience you will know just what a fantastic weekend it was too! Despite it being April and a few showers on the Saturday the sun shone for us most of the day on Sunday and we had lots of people through the gate so thank-you to every-one who came along. All the proceeds are going to the Lincolnsfieds Childrens Charity so thank-you for surporting us and for making the event so special!
If you have been following my blogs you will know I was booked to do 3 x 45 minute shows daily plus I did a 60 minute Lindy Hop set at the Saturday night dance.  Josh Jones was working with me as my sound engineer who did a really fantastic job. So thank-you ever-so Josh it was wonderful to work with you as I couldn’t have done it with-out you! It was Josh’s first experience of a 1940s event so I don’t know what he made of us all – but then dressing up and singing songs from different historical periods is quite normal to me and seeing people dresed like-wise is also normal! I don’t do present day or modern. Most of the stuff in my wardrope is at least 70 years old!

Me shopping between shows!

Ofcourse I can’t do a 1940s event  with-out taking some time out to look around the stalls and it was lovely to see Martin again with his wonderful stall of American uniforms. It was from Martin I bought my US WAVES uniform as pictured and I have to say it’s one of my most popular shows – but then it does have some great music in it!
Thank-you evey-one for your e-mails as it’s wonderful to get your feed back and don’t forget you can order CDs by going straight to my web-site at www.fionaharrison.biz I’m so pleased you  enjoyed my Evette the Spivette show. It was the first time I had performed her at Bushey and I do enjoy playing her very much. It seems women and men alike love her sassyness and well I just love wearing the shoes as they give me that Evette wiggle which I based on Marilyn Monroe! Evette the Spivette has lots of pertential so watch this space as I look forward to developing her further. I know quite a few of you said you would like to buy your black market gear from Evette but perhaps I should point out Evette the Spivette is a stage act rather than a promanard entertainer but who knows – selling girly gear from a case might be fun after all to quote a line from my show. “I’m a Spivette like no-other and I know what Women Want”!

Derek Addison and I outside the museum!

I have lots of plans for the future and I’m looking to do some fresh photo shoots in the next few months. So I exspect you are all looking forward to seeing some new shots as social media is a hungry beast which has to be fed. Some of my photos will be shot on location and some will be done in a studio. So watch this space as I keep you posted. I have some great new outfits I would like to have recorded.
Before I forget I big thank-you to Joe Marling who brought over 12 Military Vehicles to Bushey on Sunday and to Derek Addison who showed me around the American Museum. I really enjoyed the singing firemen and Mels Belles who performed at the Saturday Night’s dance and not forgetting Mike and Mel and Tim and Christine who joined me for my 3.30pm Lindy Hop show each day. Ofcourse we mustn’t forget Phil Knight who organised the whole thing and for whom should be very proud as the 40s Family Experience was agreat success. Well done Phil!
Tomorrow I shall be performing my 1920s and 30s “Putting on the Ritz” show in Biggleswade and I still have much I must do before bed.
Thanks for following – Keep Watching and Toodle Pip for Now!
