NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Stompin’ in Derby, East Ham and Shooting at Shuttleworth!

Meeting Up with my Friend Buzz!
On Stage at The Rolls Royce Club!
On the road again with the lovely Kim!

What a great night we all had last night in Derby at The Rolls Royce Club. Janet had done a wonderful job of selling tickets and the club was full with over 230 tickets sold. I was booked to do my 1940s show in two sets one ATS and one Glamour and I really enjoyed seeing every-one up and dancing. On this occasion I made a point of including lots of dance music as Janet had told me she had sold lots of tickets to dancers. So where I would normally do more of a sing-along set with my ATS show I made sure I included lots of songs every-one could dance to with the favourite being the barn dance. You can’t go wrong with a good old fashioned waltz so I also included “Hands Knees and Boomps a Daisy” which I may well make my theme tune – I do love it and it’s so very me!
It was great to meet up with so many friends including a very smart RAF officer who I know as Buzz. So lovely to see you there Buzz and I’m so pleased you enjoyed the night. Catch up with you soon!
So a big thank you to Janet for organising the evening and to every-one at Rolls Royce. I was lucky enough to have my friend Kim with me who I had employed as my sound engineer. It was lovely to work with you again and thank-you ever-so for doing my hair.
Kim is a very talented sound engineer with special skills – who could ask for anything more! xx
Before we started work Kim and I stopped for dinner at The Blue Jay which is just a stones throw away from the club and we had a lovely meal including a very large slice of carrot cake between us. We both felt that because the cake was made from carrots it was the healthy option. After the show Kim drove home and neither of us had any trouble at all seeing in the dark! The only annoying thing was I forgot to pack my super hold you in knickers and after cake it was a bit of a drat moment. Still the show must go on even with-out my wonder knickers!
Today I have been working out down the gym and sorting out clothes for my photo shoot a Shuttleworth.
On Sunday they are having a flying day and I’m looking to do a 1920s 30s photo shoot with some of the vintage vichels so I’m looking forward to working with photographer Dave Jackson again. I also hope to get some shots of me in my American 1940s WAC uniform so lets hope the weather is good.
Tomorrow I’m performing in East Ham at The Well Community Centre and Saturday I’m helping my brother with his honey stall at the local horticultural show. My brother is a bee keeper and he has been keeping  bees for years so it will be lovely to go to the show again.
As you can see I have a very busy few days a head so I may well not blog again until Monday. In the mean time enjoy my photos on Facebook Keep Watching and thanks for following

Going 1940s at The Rolls Royce Club!

Hello everyone I’m just back from doing a 1950s and 60s show in Much Hadnam and I’m now all set for Derby tomorrow.
I shall be going all 1940s at The Rolls Royce Pavilion, Moor Lane, Derby and if you would like tickets they are only £2.00 each as the club is subsidised – so very reasonable.
Call Janet James on 01332 573350 as tickets are going fast and I have a great show planed. My first set will be in ATS uniform and then I shall be coming back with my 1940s glamour set. I’ve planned both sets to have lots of dance music rather than just sing along so bring your dancing shoes!
Well must dash as I have much to sort out this week. Thursday I shall be heading off London way with a show booked in East Ham.
Thanks for following and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday at The Rolls Royce Pavilion.
Toodle Pip and Bye for Now! 😉

From Odyssey to Rolls Royce and up to Derby!

Grenadiers of the 1750s!
My US WAC Shoes!

Today I’m trying to get everything straight in prep for a very busy September and I’m just back from visiting the Multi period show Odyssey in Kent. I love history and it’s amazing who you bump into at these things including Grenadiers from the 1750s. My reason for going was to do some shopping as I’m trying to get my American WAC uniform together in prep for Chatham’s “Salute to the 40s”. That’s going to be a fantastic show – I’m also compering this year with my friend Madeline Brown so I’m looking forward to it very much.
One of my first port of calls at Odyssey was “Soldier of Fortune”. If you don’t know they specialise in everything for the Re-enactor from WW1 to modern military and I was pleased to say they had a pair of WAC shoes for me. Check out their web-site www.1944airborne.com Mind you I can’t say I was over impressed with the workmanship. Maybe I’m just use to wearing very good quality shoes that I expect the same finish on all things. I expect when they are polished up they will look the biz. So shoe brushes at the ready!
Although yesterday was all about shopping I always like to look well turned out and to be honest I really didn’t know what to wear. I left Leighton Buzzard at 8.30am and I was quite shue the the weather was going to be warm and sunny with just the odd passing shower, which was why I wore my 1940s play suit. I couldn’t have got it more wrong I should have worn boots not sandals – not that it spoilt my enjoyment at all.

A Beautiful Victorian Lady!

I love to people watch and I love historical fashion. I loved this ladies bustle with the tartan jacket and like me she came into the main hall to shelter from the rain. I also saw some very soggy Pirates and for any-one in wool cloaks it must have been a nightmare because the rain just kept falling. It couldn’t have been much fun for the Romans as it looks so wrong a Roman with an umbrella. Mind you I was ok the beautiful thing about my play suit is it does wash and wear well where some of my vintage pieces are too precious to wear out other than on stage.
I’m ever-so British and I’m not put off by a bit of rain I came to shop and shop I did. I was really pleased I was able to pick up some original 1920s beads to go with my flapper dress and some seamed stockings. I was also able to pick up a pair which will go with my ATS uniform plus a red Military jacket which at first made me think of Vester Tilley and of the song “Jolly Good Luck to a Girl who Loves a Soldier” . However looking at it again it has a band Salvation Army quality so something to play with and have a think about!

Me a bit Wet and Wind Swept!

I’m back at my desk now and all set for Tuesday show at the Rolls Royce Pavilion in Derby so I hope you can all make it along. If you would like tickets call Janet James on 01332 573350 Tickets are £2 per person so very reasonable and I shall be doing 2 x 45 min 1940s sets one ATS and one glamour.
Well must dash lots of loose ends to tie. Thanks for following and Keep Watching

Shooting at Earsham Hall!

Me peaking out from my dressing room at Earsham Hall

I’ve just got back from a couple of days away in Suffolk working with talented photographer Angela Adams. I met Angela last year when she engaged me to sing for her mothers birthday party and she mentioned she was a professional photographer. Angela has a studio at Earsham Hall and we were granted special permission by the family to shoot in the house hence my visit. As I’m sure many of you already know I like to have my dresses recorded and photographed for my web-site and the one page I feel is missing is my 1920s and 30s one. So this was a wonderful opportunity I couldn’t let slip.
I think I must be a Gypsy at heart as I love to travel and I’m so lucky in that I get to meet and work with some really talented people. So often when I work with photographers we take hundreds of photos just to get that perfect shot. Angela works in a very different way. As a model she would direct me often asking me to move the slightest thing. In many cases I would have to hold the pose for a long time often pushing my body into what feels at the time odd shapes. But from Angela’s angle the perfect photo, so I can’t wait to see the photos – but I’m going to have to be pacent.

Earsham Hall

Angela had to dash off straight afterwards to Brighton so it may be three weeks or so before I get to see them but it’s been a wonderful experience so thank-you Angela for inviting me and to Annabel Stretton-Derham for granting us permission to shoot in the hall. Do check out the Earsham Hall web-site and you will be able to see just how beautiful the house is – perfect for a wedding!
www.earshamhallevents.co.uk
I myself have a few snap shots of my own so here I am on the Earsham Hall stair case looking ever-so glamorous in my vintage fox fur.

Me looking Glam on the Stairs at Earsham!

Angela and I started shooting at 9.30am and we had planed to finish at 2.30pm 3.00pm. As with anything I do I always bring more costumes than I need just to give choice and just as we were about to wrap at 3.30pm a gentleman tuned up in a 1929 Ford A class. Well as you can imagine it was too good an opportunity to miss so thank-you Geoffrey for letting us borrow your car Jezebel. I shall e-mail you the photos when they come through! It was 5pm when we eventually got away but well worth it so I guess it must have just been fate Geoffrey turning up when he did!
By the end of the shoot I was really tired and these last few days I have been staying with Brian and Ursula at The Somerton Guest House in Lowestoft. A wonderful B&B so if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Lowestoft I would really recommend it. Brian and Ursula made me really welcome and I even had a room with a sea view. Checkout their web-site www.somertonguesthouse.co.uk
The last time I was in Lowestoft was back in the late 90s and back then the town was looking a little run down but not now. The beach is all sand and really beautiful. I did rather wish I had a bucket and spade as I haven’t made sand castles in years but sadly I ran out of time!
Today I had a Tea Dance in Saffron Walden so staying over an extra night in Lowestoft worked out rather well. Saturday I’m down to Maidstone in Kent for the Odyssey show. I’ve been wanting to go to that show for ages as it is a multi period show and I love history. Only I can’t decide what period to go as as I do so many. Don’t forget you can catch me this Tuesday at The Rolls Royce Pavilion, Moor Lane, Derby with my We’ll Meet Again show but more details of that later.
