NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

In a Bit of a Dash to The Battle of Britain Doo!

Hello every-one I’m in a bit of a dash to get everything ready this week for The Battle of Britain Show I’m booked to sing at RAF Chicksands on Thursday, my “From Cobbles to Rock” theatre show on Saturday and The Houghton Regis Vintage Car Show on Sunday. I think I have most of it sorted but it’s all those last little bits I mustn’t forget like where did I put my silver T-Strap sandals? Oh and while I think about it don’t forget your Pink Buddy Holly Umbrella for The Raining in My Heart number for Cobbles to Rock!
Tomorrow I’m booked to do 2 shows in Nuneaton and then I’m meeting up with my friend Amy for Dinner so much to do. I’ve shows Friday  and between Chicksands so not much time to write tonight I’m afraid.
Don’t forget you can see me on Sunday at Houghton Regis for the Vintage Car Show. The event is free and I shall be performing 3 x 45 min shows daily I shall be on at 11/11.30pm ATS “We’ll Meet Again” 1/1.30pm American Glamour and then back on at 3pm for a 1950s and 60s show. I just need to check the times on my first two shows as I can’t remember if they are on the hour or half.
Sorry must dash it’s gone 1am and I must get to bed. Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Love is in the Air, the Hammered Dulcimer and off to Knowl Hill!

Folk Band Random Jig

It’s been another busy weekend one way and another with Wedding Bells at The Bell Hotel and a Golden Wedding Anniversary in the village of Knowl Hill not far from Maidenhead – so it’s been a romantic couple of days! The great thing about my job is I get to sing so many different types of music and meet lots of interesting people. For the Bell  wedding I was booked to sing music from the 1940s to the 70s and asked to include lots of Abba which went down really well with the guests. I also found out that the groom was a bit of a train buff so Chattanooga Cho Cho was a must. No wedding show would be complete with-out me doing some Chuck Berry so a real mix bag and a great time was had by all especially me as I got to play the invisible guitar and I never once put a note wrong!

The Hammered Dulcimer

On Saturday night I was booked to do a Swinging 60s show at Knowl Hill Village Hall and the couple had also booked a Barn Dance with folk band “Random Jig” check out their web-site www.randomjig.com
The band brought along an instrument called the Hammered Dulcimer which I found fascinating. It looks a bit like the inside of a piano and is played with little hammers which to the untrained eye look a bit like forks. The band are a four piece and it was a pleasure to meet Andy on piano, Chris on fiddle Kate on the hammered dulcimer and Doug on Squeeze Box who also did the calling for the Barn Dance. Rather than me try and describe their music it’s probably best if you click onto their web-site and listen to their sound bites but to me their music wouldn’t have seemed

Chris on Fiddle & Doug on Squese Box

out of place at a country dance from “Lark Rise to Candleford” and I loved it. So did every-one and after my 60s set I got changed and stayed for the dance. Barn Dances are great fun because all ages can enjoy them and the music is so enjoyable. So if you are looking to stage a Barn Dance I recommend Random Jig.
This week I’m fully booked with shows with the run up to Battle of Britain Day with an extra busy weekend planed . Saturday I will be playing in my home town of Leighton Buzzard at the Conservative Club with my “Cobbles to Rock” show a 100 years of Music and Costume and then on Sunday I will be singing in Houghton Regis for a Vintage Car Show on the Green. I shall be performing  3 x 45 minute shows daily ATS – American Glamour and a 1950s and 60s set, but more of that later this week. Don’t forget you can also catch me in Chatham at the Historic Dock Yard on the 21st 22nd September with “Salute to the 40s”. For any-one who loves the 1940s this is the place to be as they have pushed out all the stops and have three stages with non stop entertainment. I shall be hosting and Compering the Spitfire stage with my friend Madeline Brown so can’t wait.
Well must dash lots to do Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

We’ll Meet Again and Wedding Bells!

With the change in the month has come a change in my shows and it’s been full steam ahead with “We’ll Meet Again” shows this week. I’m all set for another busy weekend as I’m booked to sing for a Wedding tomorrow and then I’m off to Maidenhead on Saturday for a Golden Wedding Anniversary only this time it has a 1960s theme so lots of Dusty and Pet Clark songs.
I’ve been trying to catch up with paper work in between times and my office does rather look like a bomb has hit it. I never really have enough time to do all the things I want to do and  keeping up with paper work is never ending. Not that I’m complaining I have some very important shows to do this month and I’ve sold over 250 dates this year which isn’t bad going for a tiddler like me. Dates are starting to go for next year and I’m looking forward to doing some different periods in particular WW1 and Victorian which will make a change. I’m fully booked all next week with it being Battle of Britain day on the 15th and the RAF usually like to do their special Mess dinners on Thursdays. I shall also be performing my “Cobbles to Rock” theatre show next Saturday in Leighton Buzzard at the Conservative Club. The show tells the story of a 100 years through music and costume from 1900 to 2000 and thinking about it I need to go over a few of the songs so much to do.
To be honest I fancy an early night so I shall leave it here tonight. Thank-you for following

Behind the Scenes and in Front of the Camera!

Me at Shuttleworth!

This weekend I have been worthing with photographer Dave Jackson of Reto Air photography at Shuttleworth  museum photographing some of my 1920s and 30s costumes. I was given special permission and  access to the museums collection so it was a wonderful opportunity I couldn’t let slip. A week ago I was lucky enough to be photographed by Angela Adams at Earsham Hall in some of my 1920s and 30s evening gowns and Sundays shoot was all about day dresses and cars. I’ve been really blessed in finding such talented photographers and together we should have some fantastic shots for my web-site and new 1920s 30s page.

Me with Shuttleworth’s MG TA

I’ve included a few of my behind the scenes shots from my little camera for my blog tonight but when it comes to seeing the real shots I’m afraid you will have to wait. Angela has just posted up one of my photos from Earsham Hall on my Facebook page and I’m looking forward to seeing the rest as and when.

Me with the Americans Paul and Mike

Apart from the 1920s and 30s I was also keen to get some shots of me in my American WAC uniform. I shall be launching another 1940s show very soon called “GI Jive” which will give bookers another choice and take my number of 1940s costume shows available up to 11. But as with anything – I like to make sure things are just right. When I was at the Odyssey show in Kent last week I was talking with some American WW2 re-anacters and asking their advice about insignia and where to sew the Shafe badge. So after taking a few photos I went away and sewed my badge on cross hatching it and if you want to see the result check out the photos on my facebook page.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Daves shots from Sunday as I was able to invite along my two friends Paul and Mike who when it comes to doing American really look the part. Mike was able to bring along his Jeep and I’m sure we will have some fantastic shots so can’t wait to see them.
September is going to be another busy month with shows nearly every-day and some high profile ones too. I’ve shows all this week and next Saturday I shall be performing my Cobbles to Rock show A 100 year of music and costume to celebrate the Conservatives Clubs centenary so a very busy time a head.
I must get to bed now as I feel very tied.
Thank-you for following and Toodle Pip
