NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

A Voice in a Million

Feeling Creative!

Today I’ve been out performing my WAAF show over in Hazlemere and tomorrow I will be all ATS with the run up to remberance. Friday I’m going to be over in Norfolk performing my Pearly Queen show just to be different and then it’s two shows Saturday one in Sawbridgeworth and then Waddesdon in the evening which I hope you can all make it along to. Details about that can be found on my face book Fiona Harrison a Voice in a Million page so do come – as the money is going to a good corse Help the Heros.
Despite being on the road I haven’t lost sight of my creative streak. December is going to be a very busy month but I will be taking some time out on the 1st to atend The Chap Ball. I’ve designed a new dress for the ocastion and I’ve been inspired by orstraige feathers. I feel they are going to be quite the thing for me this season and I just love the way they move. I saw a wedding dress in a shop window the other day which rather inspired me as the skirt was coved in orstrage feathers and it set me thinking about Ginger Rodgers and that dress which Fred hated so. Mind you I kind of agree as it did have a slight Yetty quility but the way the orstrige feathers were aplyed to this dress was so suttle it made me think about how I would do it. Often less is more! I’ve also commisoned a designer a very talented  and creative  lady by the name of Lucie Green to make my earings and broach. Sometimes you can just hit it off with someone straight away and Lucie and I are just on the same wave lengh. At first I was going to order a necklace but the more I thought about it the more the broach cosarge idea won. It’s lovely to find someone like minded who you can bat ideas off of and I can’t wait to see the finnished results.
Well must dash as I have a busy day tomorrow and my bed beconds. Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Back from Lytham St Anne’s!

Sometimes you never know what is waiting for you around the corner! I was all set for a quite weekend of catch up and contract typing when the phone rang. Could I sing that night in Lytham St Anne’s – No problem so this weekend I have been up on the Flyde cost an area I know quite well as I started my professional career in Blackpool and may I say it was rather lovely to see the old place again. Blackpool is one of those places you either love or hate but nearly everyone you meet is in showbiz in one way or another or a landlady. The only snag about Blackpool is it is almost compleatly controlled by agents and they have a very set idea about what singers should sing making it very difficult for anyone with a fresh aproach to work. However in this case that rather worked to my advantage as the Hotel needed a 1940s singer and Blackpool couldn’t suply. Acording to Blackpool agents nobody wants to hear swing anymore it’s too old fashioned and if you want to work you need to add in a Serchers Medley or some 60s numbers. (There lies the joke!) But you know what dispite all that I love Blackpool and I do find myself popping in from time to time – and the best bit is I can go any place any where at any time. That’s the great thing about being free and single I can just jump in my van and go!
Saturday night’s job couldn’t have been easier – all I had to do was sing while people were dinning how easy peasy is that. Cash in hand sorted! I also had the pleasure of working with a fantastic girl singer called Nicki Miller who quite frankly could do Barbara Striseland better than Striseland. She also looked alot like her too only pretter! Nicki was just a joy to watch and listen to and I really enjoyed our chat afterwards about the biz and Blackpool. I hope our paths cross again so fingers crossed. It was wonderful to meet you Nicki and do keep in touch!
Sunday I wized down the M6 as I had to be at the recording studio in Bracknell for the evening. I’ve just had my Christmas medley remasted with a new arrangement done for the Christmas season. Once again Richard has done me proud but it does rather make the rest of my Chistmas songs sound old and I’m going to have to have all those re-done for next year I think. In the meantime today I’ve just had a very important bussness lunch  with one of the movers and shakers from the 40s sceen which has proved to be very informative for both of us! The next few weeks are going to be very busy for me with the run up to Christmas and Remberance. I shall try and keep you posted so do Keep Watching and don’t forget you can catch me on the 10th November at The Lion in Waddesdon, Bucks. I shall be on stage at 9pm -9.45pm ATS and 10.30pm -11.30pm with 1940s glamour. I think there is food available so for more details ring the pub on Tel 01296 651227 See you there and Toodle Pip for Now!

James Bond, the future and The Paradise!

I’ve just got back from spending the afternoon at the cinama watching the new James Bond and I have to say I feel rather excited by the future. A rather unsal statment from someone who spends so much of their time recreating the past – but have you ever had that feeling when you know something exstorinary is about to happen but you don’t quite know what? But you know it’s going to be something amazing. I’ve never felt so creative as I do now and idears seem to be flowing from me like water. In many ways I feel like Denis from that wonderful TV program The Paradise. My mind spins off and I think of everything from dress designs to shows and musical arangements – sometimes I feel like my head will exsplode!
Ofcourse it’s probably all nonsese but I know we are on the verge of change. These last few weeks and infact for the year I’ve noticed a restlessness from people involed in the heritage circit. The 1940s has lost it’s sparkle and so many re-anacters are looking for something new. I’ve been investigating new trends and I have a feeling that the one beat drums are likly to get swept away with the end of season.
The new Bond film is so on trend. I thought it rather clever the way they combined old with new so all the peices from the old Bond films fell into place compleating the puzzel. The new young Q perfectly cast with his understanding of the modern computer world and yet we still had the classic Astin Martin. Such a shame it had to blow up but then that’s Bond! By the end of the film we were back in the old office we remembered from the old Bond films with things having turned full circal.
If the Heritage circit is to servive just like Bond it needs to reconise change. The future lies in what is popular and current and yet still embrace the past. We are comming up to the the 100th aniversary of WW1 but that in it’s self is a little somber and depressing. So if it was down to me I would combine that with Downton Abbey weekends pushing the event through to the 1920s too. It would bring in more musical styles and joy – which is so important to an event if it is to work.  Ofcourse you could just do the 1920s and 30s and call it the Art Decco weekend which could be very glamorous! Quite a few railways have dropped the 40s in faver of  the 60s which might be a smart move. The 1960s has much to offer and often stations have more trains from this period. So lets see what the future brings I’m looking forward to embracing it. Let me know what you think as change is on it’s way mark my words! Toodle Pip and thanks for following!

Going all Wichy Poo!

It’s Halloween and I’ve been out and about today doing my Halloween show. I only wish I had a photo to show you my outfit but please belive me when I say I’m rather pleased with it and it did invole the most wonderful headband and sparkly spider. Another costume I must have photographed! A never ending story as I do love my costumes and clothes – I think we can safely say Fiona Harrison is the Queen of Dress Up ha ha!
I confess I was a little aprahensive about todays show because some of the songs I had not sung in a while. However I did have a pratice through last night and another go through while I was at the hair dresses today wating for my nails to dry and sure enough everything went really well. In fact it didn’t just go well the show went really really really well and quite frankly we just had a ball! Mind you the perfectionist in me thinks I rather got away with murder but then it is Halloween!
Tonight I’m feeling rather modern as my mother has been playing around with my I pad 2 and she managed to get BBC i player up and we were able to watch The Paradise – I love that programe! I bought the I pad 2 over a year ago for my music but I never got on with it and it’s just been sitting in the box. I found it too sensative and not responsive enough for when I was on stage but at least it can pick up from where the video recorder died!( I’m very old fashioned!) It’s just a shame we weren’t able to get the screen to turn. We had to watch eposode one in portrate rather than landscape. Next time I will bring my opera glasses it’s like being at the back of the theatre when you are trying to get the whole room to watch as well!
Tomorrow I’m going to treat myself to an afternoon off and I want to go and see James Bond. I did think I might meet up with my ex David as I thought perhaps he never really got the closer he truly deseverd. But as nothing was arranged and he never really got back to me I’ve decided to do my own thing. It would appeare he has moved on just fine so no worries there!  I’d just like my slippers back that’s all – so David if you are reading this please just post them back in a jiffy bag and I wish you well in what ever it is you do for the future!
Well that’s about it from me for today. Do keep watching as I have some very busy weeks ahead
Toodle Pip and Bye for now!
