NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Do you have a sixpence?

Today I have been out and about performing my “We’ll Meet Again” ATS show only to have something ping when I was in full flight of singing “Hands Knees and Bomps a Daisy”. I’ve never been a fan of Lyle stockings at the best of times but to loose a suspender doesn’t help with wrinkly ankles. I’ve always had a bit of trouble with this suspender belt as one of the little buttons hates thick stockings and always plays up when I try to do it up. But today was the final straw and I can’t have things go when I’m on stage. I remember someone once told me that back in the day a sixpence would be used to repair a broken suspender. What a pity I didn’t have a sixpence today it could have saved me from a wrinkly ankle – Such a bother!
Well I’m all set for another busy weekend. Tomorrow I’m performing for my women’s group so quite what I’ll do I don’t know but I shall go with the flow and maybe include some Abba and a bit of Rock and Roll. I’ve two shows Saturday one in Essex and then over to Ealing in the Evening with another photo shoot planned for Sunday. To be honest I’m not really in the mood to be photographed at the moment. But these things have to be done before the weather breaks and I’m so looking forward to my holiday next week.
Well that’s about it from me for tonight. I think I shall turn my computer off and get on with a bit of brass button polishing and prep my uniforms for Sundays shoot.
Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Thanks for your letter and off to Bath!

I’d like to start by thanking the kind gentleman from the Midway who sent me a lovely letter today thanking me for my performances at Chatham for the “Salute to the 40s” event. Yes I do remember you and our chat and I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to receive your letter. You maybe right about me adding an Events Diary page to my web-site but more and more of my work seems to be private and corporate events where you wouldn’t be able to see me and alittle frustrating to the reader. However on the 15th 16th October I will be in Bournemouth working for Saga holidays and you can find me in their broucher. I’m also working for Cultural Breaks and will be appearing Christmas Day at the Runnymede Hotel in Egham and New Years Eve at The Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair London. If you would like more info do drop me a line. I will of course be back at Chatham next year but if you can’t wait for Sept 2014 I will be performing at the Isle of Wight Steam railway  for their Victorian Weekend 2nd 3rd Aug 14. So looking forward to that one very much as I love doing Victorian. I have some lovely new costumes and songs for next year too!
I’m sorry I haven’t been quite so active on facebook of late but these last few weeks have been pretty full on and I’m looking forward to taking a break. In fact I’m all set for a holiday and I’m booked to go away to Bath next week. Bath is one city I’ve never visited and I’m really looking forward to seeing the costume museum and all that beautiful Georgian architecture. I shall be taking along my little camera so look out for my snap shots.
Speaking of cameras I hope to squeeze in another photo shoot before I go away and before the weather breaks. I feel I could do with a few new uniform shots for my 1940s page and perhaps the page needs a bit of a re-vamp. In the mean time do look out for my new 1920s 30s page soon to go up so keep watching and I shall keep you posted.
We’ll must dash as I have much to do this evening . Thanks for following and Toodle Pip!

Back from Colchester and the Best of British!

Judi and Spencer at Megarry’s Antiques and Tea Shop!

Hello one and all so sorry I haven’t blogged much this week but I have been out and about rather. In fact I’ve just got back from Colchester after singing for a 1940s Wedding at the Colchester Railway Museum. I played the museum back in August when I was booked to sing for their 1940s event so it was lovely to return and see all the volunteers again. The museum makes for a wonderful location and the wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. I also had the pleasure of working with another good friend of mine DJ Woody who is just fantastic and always knows just what to play at these sorts of events. Great job Woody – it was lovely to see you both again!

Blackmore Village

I stayed over in Colchester and decided to have a leisurely journey back today avoiding the M11 and M25. The road works on the M25 at the mo are dreadful so I didn’t want to get stuck in traffic like I did last week coming back from Chatham. I had wanted to be in London today for the Pearly Kings and Queens Costermongers Harvest Festival parade and service at St Mary-le-Bow, Cheapside. But after all the running around and shows I’ve done this month I didn’t feel I could face London. So instead I set off to go home via Baldock and Bishops Stortford. I’m not quite sure how I managed it but somehow I missed the A120 and carried on down on the A12  not realising my mistake until I hit the M25 (Day dreaming again). So I decided to go back up the A12 and cut across country picking up the  A414 taking me through to Harlow, Hertford and back home to Leighton Buzzard that way instead.
I am a great believer in fate and in doing so I stumbled upon the most beautiful village by chance called Blackmore. By this time I was ready for lunch so I stopped and enjoyed my sandwiches on the village green and the weather couldn’t have been more lovely if it had tried. I then called into Megarry’s Antiques and Teashop at Jericho Cottage for coffee and had a really good natter with it’s owner Judi Wood. Antiques and afternoon tea are two of my favourite past times and I stayed for a good two hours buying presents and drinking coffee. So if you ever find yourself in that neck of the woods do call in to Megarry’s and just like me Judi runs a blog too so check out the link. www.antique-teashop.co.uk
She also has a web site for both the antiques and for the tea shop too  www.megarrysantiques.co.uk  www.megarrysteashop.co.uk
Back home now and back to work with catching up with paperwork

Thank-you every-one for your comments and feed back on my new Keep Fit article for the Best of British magazine. I’m really pleased with the way the article has turned out so if you haven’t got your October copy yet do nip down to WH Smiths and you will find me on page 92. Like I say in the article this work-out has really worked for me and has given me the shape I’ve always wanted. I always feel very proud when an article I’ve writain gets published because I don’t find writing easy being dyslecic and a lot of extra work went into this one.
Well it’s late and I must get to bed as I have a lot to do tomorrow. Thanks for following Keep Watching and Toodle Pip!

Back from Chatham and onto WW1 and the 20s!

It’s been something of a whirl wind weekend and all go at the Historic Dock Yard Chatham with “Salute to the 40s”. I’m sorry I’m a bit behind with posting my blog but since getting back from Chatham I’ve been burning the midnight oil yet again trying to get everything ready for my web-designer and my new 1920s and 30s page soon to go up on my web-site but more of that later!
In the mean time back to Chatham and I think Alana and Anthony should be congratulated for putting on such a fantastic “Salute to the 40s” event. There was so much going on and some fantastic acts, the best on the 40s scene with so much variety. For the finale we all came together for a Variety show organised and hosted by Madeline Brown who did a fantastic job as compere. When you are working so intensely you don’t get the chance to hear and see the other artists so it was a wonderful opportunity. I particularly enjoyed listening to Mickie Driver’s arrangement of Me and My Girl as I have worked for Mickie through his agency but never heard him sing before. I enjoyed The Putting on the Blitz boys and their close harmonies, the fabulous Polka Dot Dolls, Victoria Yellop on Violin, the beautiful Lola Lamour and the bouncy Natasha Harper and Little Miss Lucy who was just charming. It’s always a pleasure to see Gypsy John and the Cinique Port Lindy Hoppers who just seem to be so full of life and engery

Me with the US WAVES

Now I’m back home I have so much to sort out costume wise. I decide myself as a soprano and costume artist and over the course of the weekend I went through nine different costume changes – mad or what! It’s just as well I drive a van! I was down for four shows daily + the finale and over the course of the weekend did a real mix bag from British to American. I’m pleased with the way my new GI Jive show went and also my Pearly Queen show. I’d not done my Pearly Queen one at Chatham before but it kind of makes a change from singing American music which is also very popular. It was great to catch up with so many friends and thank you every-one for posting up your photos on facebook.

Me as a Pearly Queen with GI Paul!

These last few days I have been trying to catch up with paper work and today I met up with Rachel my web-designer. I’m looking forward to adding the new 1920s and 30s page to my site as there does seem to be a bit of a hole there at the moment. When it comes to web-sites and social media the world is ever changing and it’s important I keep up to date and move with it particularly as web-sites now need to be mobile with mobile phones and tablets becoming much more main stream. It’s a change I will have to make before the end of 2014 but I am a little worried about it as I don’t want to compromise on design.
After my meeting with Rachel I had an appointment to visit the Trenchard Museum at RAF Halton as I’m very interested in WW1 history with the run up to the centenary. I’m looking forward to performing at lots of WWI events next year. The other day I was note bashing through music from that period so something I’m planning to invest in and really develop further.
The Trenchard Museum goes right through and covers many periods in RAF Halton’s history. After writing this blog I shall pop up a few photos on facebook and also some of my weekend at Chatham so do click through here is the link http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fiona-Harrison-A-Voice-in-a-Million/143965822288531
I have another busy week with shows every day now to Saturday so time for bed.
