NEWS PAGE & BLOG

Hello one and all and welcome to my news page. Here you can see me as my two alter egos the ever efficient secretary Prudie Jones, Evette the Spivette and plain old little me as you catch up with all that is current in my world. Regrettably unlike Prudie my spelling is quite frightful at the best of times due to my dyslexia so I shall apologise now for anything which might be shamefully mis-spelt. In the mean time I hope you find this page fun, entertaining and informative and become a regular visitor to my site.

Chained to the Desk!

It’s been one of those weekends where I’ve been chained to my desk through-out and no sooner do I clear the contracts and I get another phone call – booking more shows so that’s really good! Show-biz can be a real roller coaster though. It’s only Monday and I’ve already had some real ups and downs with jobs. One job that I thought was sercure has fallen through today and although others have come in it doesn’t make up for the disapointment! That’s the thing about Show Biz nothing is ever 100% secure. There are times when I wish I had a 9 to 5. It can be a real nightmear being an artist let me tell you!
Deep Sigh!
On a brighter note I met up today with the South Beds Concert Band arranger Bill and it was wonderful to hear his interpratation of my War Time sing-along medley arranged for concert band. I hope the band enjoy playing it as the intraments all have their own little parts and I think when we come together it will be a real show stopper, so I’m looking forward to rehursing with them.
Tomorrow I shall be out all day and to be honest I’m looking forward to having some time away from my desk. I have my regular diabetic apointment in the morning but I haven’t been all that well of late. I’ve been a little under the weather with a slight cold and usaly a few lemonsips sorts that out just fine. However I have had an added problem which I didn’t notice until yesterday evening. My day time insolin bottle had a crack in it and air was getting into the bottle, so when I was injecting I wasn’t getting my full does. Consiqently my sugar levels were rising and with the added leomonsips things were getting out of control. Normanly I can burn the extra sugar off with exersise but nothing was working until I found out what the problem was and then I was able to ajust things to suit. I made the point of having a really good work-out today in the gym and now everything is back in balance again. However this insolin and I don’t mix too well and it effects my moods greatly. If things aren’t spot on I get very highly strung and emotional and I just wish I could go back to my old insolin. Sadly it’s no longer avalable so I’m having to make the best of it.
I’m really looking forward to doing my driving course tomorrow as there is much I can learn I think. The only down side is it’s at a bit of a funny time 4.45pm -9pm so I’m going to have to take a picknick with me. I hope they wont mind me eating my sandwiches through the course.
Well it’s late so time for bed I think. Thanks for following Todle Pip and Bye for Now!

Hooray for Hollywood!

Today I’ve been out and about performing my “Hooray for Hollywood” show. I got a last minute call yesterday from a lady who was looking for someone to sing songs from the movies for this afternoon. As luck would have it I was free so I was able to obliedge and a jolly good time was had by all! I have two favourite songs from that show “Throughly Modern Milly” because it has a dance break in it and I get to Chaleston and “Diamonds are a girls best friend” because yes I love diamonds and Marilyn Monroe – What a star!
I don’t have any shows this weekend but I still have quite alot of e-mails to anwser so I must get to it. More shows have come in so I want to crack on with the rest of my contracts and just sort out a few bits and pieces. Next week starts to get busy with Valenties Day and then I have a straight run through to March so busy busy.
I feel really tied tonight so time for bed I think. Thanks for following, Toodle Pip and Bye for Now!

Mr Selfridge and Dancing on the Edge!

I’ve been working so hard of late that I thought it was about time I caught up with a bit of TV and 2 of my favourite programs “Mr Selfridge” and The new BBC drama “Dancing on the Edge” set in the 1930s. I can’t resist a period drama and the Edwardian glamour of Mr Selfridge is just devine.
Back in the 90s I was cast in the role of Gigi and I remember when the costumes arrived it didn’t matter what size the ladies were they all looked really elegant and beautiful in their Edwardian dresses. There is something about the fashons of 1900 which I just adore and I have one or two costumes from that period in my collection which I often wear on stage. I’m also a big fan of the 1930s too and I must buy the CD from “Dancing on the Edge”. What a fantastic production and once again the costuming is spot on. As we follow the carear of the Jazz band I see so many simularaties with my-self. I too know what it is like to be playing a garden party with every-one indoors while you are singing away to the flowers and worms. I’ve also done my fair share of funerals and RAF mess dinners and although I’ve never sung for the Prince of Wales I did bump into his dad once when I was singing in Jersey – he even has two of my CDs! Funny old world isn’t! That’s show biz for you but at least I’ve never had to sing for a childrens party well not yet but who knows what horrors might be waiting for me around the corner!
Tomorrow I’m doing my Swinging 50s and 60s show so full skirts and poker dots. Dates are selling well for this year and I think I’ve caught up with all my contracts but then I have been working very hard to clear my desk.
Talking of Jersey I’m all booked to play there for Liberation on the 8th and 9th May so I’m really looking forward to visiting the island again. The last time I was there was back in 2005.
Well lots to do and thanks for following. Keep Watching Toodle Pip and buy for now!

Looking Forward!

This last week and weekend I have spent nearly every hour of every day typing up contracts and working on clearing my desk of paper work. Not that I’m complaining but there are times when I just long to go somewhere other than to the gym and to my next show.
It was lovely to be on Alan’s radio show last Friday and well maybe I just long to go and do something which isn’t work related. It takes me ages to do the simplist of things due to my dislexia and I have to spend hours where perhaps someone eles may only take minutes. It’s not unsual for me to still be typing at 2 am in the morning and sometimes I just feel like I could do with a break which doesn’t invole me sitting in a hotel room doing my accounts. But then that’s show biz and you have to give up alot to do what I do – people don’t have a clue the amount of work which goes into a performance!.
The plus side is my wall planner is looking healthy and filling up daily so hard work always  pays off in the end. This week I’m doing the Swinging 50s and 60s with Valentine shows booked in for next week. I also have a driving course to do next Tuesday which I’m looking forward to doing as I think there is much I can learn.
I have much to look forward to this year as some great new oppertunities are comming my way. Must dash and thank-you for following my blogs.Toodle Pip and do Keep Watching!
